When I decided to be driving instructor 15 years ago, I had no idea what REAL modern driving lessons actually looked and sounded like. I assumed that would be covered off in my training. It WASN’T!! And unfortunately, that’s STILL usually the same today.
Bizarrely, whilst most instructor training courses teach you an OVERWHELMING amount of theory, virtually NO time is given to help new instructors understand how to deliver lessons which are effective, engaging and enjoyable for both the student and the instructor - and help you to be a financial successful. Personally, I think that's BONKERS.
Of course, I didn’t know any of this when I paid £3k for a training course and thought that would cover everything I’d need to be a successful instructor and run a profitable business.
So, after 12 months of training, with my head exploding from all the technical info I’d had poured into me by my trainer, and finally passing my ADI exams, I couldn’t wait to unleash all my newfound knowledge and skills onto students.
I was pumped, primed and ready to GO!
To say the least, it didn’t go well….
I quickly found out I was missing a CRITICAL piece of the jigsaw….
OMG, looking back, I feel so sorry for my first students, and I now totally understand why most only had a couple of lessons before they ditched me for a far better instructor.
Just imagine for a moment how you would have felt as one of my first students if you had paid me money for this….
- Half the lesson spent at the side of the road going through very detailed and boring driving theory
- No understanding or recognition of any knowledge or experience my students already had
- Highly pre-determined and structured lessons based on what ‘I’ wanted to teach them - rather than what they wanted to achieve
- Constantly picking them up on every mistake they made – no matter how minor
- Stressing how MUCH they needed to learn and be able to do before they could even book their test
- Making every lesson HYPER serious because I felt I needed to be HYPER professional
- Repeating exercises over and over and over again until they reached perfection and I'd let them move on
At the time though, I couldn’t figure out why I couldn’t keep hold of my students. I was doing EVERYTHING I’d been trained to do – so WHY wasn’t it working?
It took me a year to figure out what I needed to change, two years of trial and error to start to improve my teaching style and techniques, and nearly four years to master them to the point where they consistently worked and my business got into top gear. I don't want it to take YOU anywhere near that long.
So, now I want to pass on my knowledge and experience to people like you. People who want to become GREAT driving instructors by using MODERN, SIMPLE and SUCCESSFUL training courses, resources and support.

Teaching people how to drive competently and confidently carries a lot of responsibility – especially if you are a professional instructor charging for lessons. You definitely need to know the technical STUFF to pass your exams, and that’s what almost all ADI training courses focus on. What they often don’t help you with though is understanding how to deliver REAL lessons to REAL students – AND THAT’S ABSOLUTELY VITAL if you want to be successful and enjoy the job.
